• Most of these preparations are in solution form and are
administered as nose drops or sprays; however, a few
are available as jellies.
• Certain nasal medications, such as beclomethasone
dipropionate are available for administration through
aerosol inhalers
• Most nasal preparations are solutions or suspensions
administered by drops or as a fine mist. Research is
directed toward the feasibility of nasal administration
of insulin for diabetes mellitus.
• Could be ointment as well!!

• Sprays may be defined as aqueous or oleaginous solutions in the form of
coarse droplets or as finely divided solids to be applied topically, most
usually to the nasopharyngeal tract or to the skin.
• The nasal spray deposits drug in the proximal part of the nasal atrium,
whereas nasal drops are dispersed throughout the nasal cavity.
• A nasal spray requires that the particles have a diameter larger than 4 μm
to be retained in the nose and to minimize the passage into the lungs.
• Many commercial sprays are used intranasally to relieve nasal congestion
and inflammation and to combat infection and contain antihistamines,
sympathomimetic agents, and antibiotic substances.
