    • Most	of	these	preparations	are	in	solution	form	and	are
administered as nose drops or sprays; however, a few
      are	available	as	jellies.

    • Certain nasal medications, such as beclomethasone
dipropionate are available for administration through
      aerosol	inhalers

    • Most nasal preparations are solutions or suspensions
administered by drops or as a fine mist. Research is
directed toward the feasibility of nasal administration
      of	insulin	for	diabetes	mellitus.

    • Could	be	ointment	as	well!!

    • Sprays may be defined as aqueous or oleaginous solutions in the form of
coarse droplets or as finely divided solids to be applied topically, most
usually	to	the	nasopharyngeal	tract	or	to	the	skin.

    • The nasal spray deposits drug in the proximal part of the nasal atrium,
whereas	nasal	drops	are	dispersed	throughout	the	nasal	cavity.

    • A	nasal	spray	requires	that	the	particles	have	a	diameter	larger	than	4	μm

to	be	retained	in	the	nose	and	to	minimize	the	passage	into	the	lungs.
    • Many commercial sprays are used intranasally to relieve nasal congestion

and inflammation and to combat infection and contain antihistamines,
        sympathomimetic	agents,	and	antibiotic	substances.
