Regulation of heme synthesis
• The first enzyme in this sequence i.e. ALA
synthase is the key regulatory enzyme for heme
synthesis which is inhibited by heme, the end
product of the metabolism.
• ALA synthase is a regulatory enzyme. Heme acts as
an Apo repressor molecule and is a negative
regulator for the synthesis of ALA synthase-I
(heme inhibits the gene).
