Dried rhizome of Alpinia officinarum family Zingiberaceae.
Constituents:
1- V.O.
2- Galangal (pungent principle).
3- Flavones.
Uses:
Stimulant, carminative in flatulence and dyspepsia.
3-Curcuma (Turmeric rhizome) الكرك م
The dried rhizome of Curcuma domestica family Zingiberaceae. Turmeric
is probably indigenous to India. The rhizomes are boiled in water for 5 to
10 minutes and then dried in the sun.
Constituents:
1- Curcuminoids (colouring materials), the chief of which is curcumin, a
yellow dye.
2- Yellow orange V.O. (sesquiterpenes and monoterpenes).
Uses:
1- Colagague and in treatment of gall stones (curcumin).
2- Strong anti-hepatotoxic and in the treatment of jaundice and hepatitis.
3- Diuretic.
4- Antibacterial activity due to curcumin.
5- Analgesic and anti-inflammatory.
