3-Colchicum corm اللحلا ح
Fresh or dry corm of Colchicum autamnale family Liliaceae. It should
be collected in summer or spring to get the highest alkaloidal content.
In autumn, it is collected to be used as nutrient like potatoes.
Constituents:
The yellow alkaloid colchicine.
Uses:
1- Anti-inflammatory in acute cases of gout (deposition of uric acid in
joints).
2- Induction of polyploidy.
3- Anti-leukemia in blood cancer.
Rhizomes containing glycosides
1- Rhubarb (anthraquinone glycosides).
2- Podophyllum (resin glycosides).
3- Black Cohosh

Dried peeled rhizomes and big roots of Rheum palmatum, R. officinal and
others except R. rhaponticum family Polygonaceae.
Rhapontic rhubarb contains a terpene derivative called rhaponticin. Its
detection depends on the production of a blue florescence with UV upon
subjecting an alcoholic extract to UV.
