− Introduced in cough and cold preparation ex lozenges and topically (in wound
       healing preparations) due to its smoothing, demulcent and antibacterial
       action.

   − Useful in limiting periodontal diseases.

   − In dry fixed flavor powders.

   − Some studies demonstrate that it can be used as a nontoxic phytochemical
       construct in the production of readily administrable biocompatible gold
       nanoparticles for Cancer Imaging

Adverse reaction:
It enhances the destruction of many pharmaceutical products due to the presence
of oxidase enzyme.

Gum tragacanth (goat’s thorn, astragalus bony milk, E413) ‫صمغ الكثيراء‬

Dried gummy extract flowing naturally or obtained by incision from the stem and
branches of various species of Astragalus specially A. gummifer family fabaceae
(Leguminosae).

Geographical source: western Asia origin (Iran, Turkey, Iraq,…..) Shape:
depend on shape of cut.
Odor: odorless.
Taste: little.
Fracture: short.
Solubility: swell into a gelatinous mass when placed in water but only a small
portion dissolves.
