Synthetic resins: made of condensation products of organic compounds.
Resin combinations:
Oleoresins: resin + volatile oil that could be separated by steam distillation
Gum-resins: gum+resins that could be separated by boiling with water so that gum
dissolves and the resin remains undissolved.
Oleo-gum resins: volatile oil+gum+ resin.
Balsams: resinous substances containing balsamic acids (benzoic , cinnamic) or
their esters.
Oleo-resins Mastic
Dried resinous exudate obtained from the incised stems and branches of Pistacia
lentiscus L. var. latifolius Coss.
Origin: Greece.
Constituents:
Resin (triterpene acids and alcohols) Volatile
oil.
Uses:
-It has antibacterial and antifungal activity.
-Used in treatment of duodenal ulcers due to its antibacterial action against
Helicobacter pylori.
