Uses:
-In incense.
-Treatment of bronchial asthma.
-Treatment of osteoarthritis.
Balsams
Balsams are not produced by plant normally but as a result of injury. They contain
high % of balsamic acids (benzoic and cinnamic).
Benzoin
Benzoin is a pathological product as a result of injury and also by fungi. The trees
do not produce balsam but only after injury the cambium produces new wood with

Sumatra benzoin
Balsamic resin obtained from incised stems of Styrax benzoin and of S.
paralleloneurus f. Styraceae contain n.l.t. 25% total balsamic acids calculated as
cinnamic acid
