Traces of free cinnamic acid, balsam esters (benzyl benzoate, benzyl cinnamate),
Resin ester: Peru resinotannol combined with cinnamic, benzoic or benzyl alcohol
Uses:

Expectorant.

Externally in the treatment of hemorrhoid, badly healing wounds, bed sores,
scabies.

Test for identity:

1. when few drops of alcoholic FeCl3 is added to the alcoholic solution a green color
   is formed.

2. On warming with KMnO4 Benzaldehyde odor is formed due to free cinnamic acid
.

3. it has higher density than water, if adulterated by addition of excess alcohol or
   turpentine density will change and it will float.

Obtained from wounded trunk of Myroxylon balsamum f. Leguminosae
Shape: Brown solid
Taste: Brittle plastic mass when chewed
Odor: Vanilla like odor

Constituents:
Free cinnamic and benzoic acids, Benzyl benzoate and benzyl cinnamate.
Toluresinotannol cinnamate and little benzoate.
