                Chapter 12: Our Eternal Guru, Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji



             The Guru Granth Sahib is truly unique among the world's great scriptures. It is
             the Supreme Spiritual Authority of the Sikh religion. Among the major religions

             of  the  world,  Sikhism  is  the  youngest  religion.  Sri  Guru  Granth  Sahib  is  the
             newest religious scripture from India. Among the major religions, this is the only

             scripture that  was  penned  down by the Masters of  the faith themselves. It is

             also the only scripture of its kind which not only contains the works of its own
             religious founders but also writings of people from other faiths. It includes the

             Bani  of  the  six  Sikh  Gurus,  fifteen  Hindu  Bhagats  and  the  Muslim  Fakeers

             including  Shaikh  Fareed,  Bhagat  Kabeer  and  Bhagat  Ravidas.  Its  message  of
             spiritual living is applicable to the whole human race, not just to the Sikhs.


             Guru Granth Sahib has 1430 pages full of Gurbani. The Gurbani is set in specific
             Raags. There are a total of 31 Raags in it. One thing that is truly amazing is that

             the whole of Guru  Granth  Sahib Ji is  set in beautiful poetry.  There  are many

             kinds of poetry in it. There are Padas, Ashatpadis, Chhants, Shabads, and Vaars
             in it.


             Guru Granth Sahib is very important in Sikhs’ lives. They consider Granth Sahib

             Ji as the Living Guru. They bow to Guru Granth Sahib wherever they see it. They
             open it in the morning to start their day and they close it in the evening to end

             their day.


             The  Sikhs  read  the  Hukam  or  order  of  the  Guru  every  day  and  at  every
             important time in their life. As you open Sri Guru Granth Sahib to take Hukam,

             Hukam  Shabad  for  the  occasion  will  the  top  most  Shabad  on  the  left  Ang  of

             Guru Granth Sahib Ji. This Hukam is supposed to guide their daily actions. The
             Gurbani is the ultimate guide to the moral path of a Sikh life. If there is any
