to the guidance from Guru Granth Sahib. The Gurbani in Guru Granth Sahib

             actually speaks to us.

There was an incident in 1920 in which the Sikhs heard Guru’s message. Even
though Sikhism prohibits belief in caste system and status of a person based on

the family they are born in. Unfortunately, there are Sikhs who still believe in

caste system and they divide Sikhs into groups. On October 12, 1920, in Khalsa
College Amritsar there was a meeting of the so called ‘low caste’ Sikh students.

They decided to go to Harimandir Sahib and make an offering of Karhah
Parshad. The Granthis refused to do Ardas for them and to accept their

offering. This kind of discrimination was against the teachings in Guru Granth
Sahib. There was a protest. An agreement was reached that they will take

Hukam from Guru Granth Sahib and everyone will follow that. Guru Granth Sahib

was opened by a Granthi Singh at a random page (638) and the Hukam was read
             by him. The Hukam was:

Waheguru forgives, and unites with Himself.
I am totally without a virtue, a sinner; the Perfect Guru has taken me in sharan. ||Pause||

The Karhah Parshad from those students was accepted and distributed at

             Harimandir Sahib.

Gurbani in Guru Granth Sahib tells us that we should get rid of the tendencies
such as anger, arrogance, self-righteousness, hate/animosity, bigotry, and

apathy/lack of concern for others, being punitive or revengeful, greed, excessive
attachment with worldly things, and corruption. These take us away from the

path of spirituality. Guru Granth Sahib teaches us to treat everyone-men and
