As a student in the Khalsa School system, one thing we really want
you to learn is Gurbani. Gurbani is a way of life for all Sikhs. As you
memorize Gurbani, you can also learn the meaning of it. The
meanings of each Paudi are at the end of the Japuji Sahib Bani in
this book.
Japuji Sahib is a beautiful Bani written by Guru Nanak Dev Ji. It
spans over first 8 pages of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. It contains
Mool Mantar, an introductory Sloak, 38 stanzas called Paudis, and a
concluding Sloak. This Bani shows us the way of life. It describes
the path to an enlightened life as experienced by Guru Nanak Dev
Ji. Japuji Sahib Bani makes us think deeply about the many
practices we follow. He asks many questions and then answers them.
It is not an easy to understand Bani.
A Note for the Teacher: Different Sikh groups think about Mool
Mantar differently. Akal Takhat Mariyada says the Mool Mantar is
up to the word Gurparsad. But the traditional Taksal and old
traditions believe is up to Nanak Hosi Bhi Sach.
