The uunth became very excited, reached his neck as high as it could go, and bit
right into one! He immediately howled very loudly, “Oh Ullu, it is very yummy, but
this fruit has a big seed right in the middle, and it hurt my teeth when I bit into it!”
Ullu said, “Silly Uunth, this is an umb . Yes, it does have a seed, and we must
peel it before we eat it. Why don’t we take some back with us and enjoy it once
we get home? I know of one other place we can go.”
They picked a few umb and packed them into their basket. On they went.
Have the children place the umb in the basket.
The uunth was very tired and hungry by now, and it was getting dark. “Are we
almost there, Ullu? I’m very hungry and tired.” Just as the ullu was about to reply,
the uunth saw a field full of vines, and on the vines, he saw clusters of beautiful
purple and green jewels. His eyes sparked, his mouth started to water.
Ullu said, “Ahhh, these are my most favorite little fruits. No need to peel them, no
need to cut them, just put them in your mouth one at a time and enjoy the juicy,
sweetness of each ungoor.” The uunth opened his mouth and gulped down a
whole cluster and started to chew. “These are amazing!!!”, he said.
The uunth and the ullu ate so many ungoor; they filled their tummies till there was
no more room. Then, they had a wonderful idea. The ungoor were so yummy;
they decided to take some back to the jungle for all their friends to try. They
packed their baskets full and left for home.
Have the children place the grape cluster in the basket.
Once they got back, all their animal friends were waiting for them. They were
worried since the ullu and uunth had been gone all day. The ullu and uunth told
their friends about the adventure they had been on and showed them what a
ananaas looked like and what a umb looked like. The animals were fascinated,
and they were starting to get hungry themselves! The ullu and the uunth had
saved the ungoor as a surprise for their friends. Finally, they took out the angoor
from their basket and shared them with all the animals that had listened to their
story. They were all so happy and grateful that the uunth and the ullu had been
so kind and thoughtful.
Surprise the kids! Bring out the cups with grapes in them, distribute them to the
children, and tell them their friends, the ullu, and uunth, brought back grapes for
them as well.
