c - Chidi Craft

As part of the c lesson, students will create their very own chidi.

            A. Please follow the directions below to make a sample for the class. Emphasize
two vocabulary words beginning with c: chidi and chunjh.

            B. Once the students complete the craft, share the story of the Chidi and the
                Ghada.

            C. This story is best conveyed with an interactive component, where students
simulate the role of the perseverant chidi in her quest to quench her thirst.

            D. For the story, you will need a clear vase with a narrow neck, pebbles or
marbles, and food coloring for the water.

            Materials:
               - Googly eyes
               - Photocopy of body and beak, provided
               - Thin strips of colored paper
               - Feathers
               - Crayons

               - Glue
               - Scissors
               - Stapler
               - Tape

            Method:
               1. Color the entire circle with crayons.

               2. Cut out the circle and fold in half.
               3. Glue the feathers all over the body of the bird.
               4. Glue one googly eye on each side of the folded paper to represent the
                    chidi’s eyes.
               5. Cut out a triangle-shaped beak and glue it to represent the chidi’s mouth.
               6. Create the tail by taking several strips of construction paper, folding them
in half, fanning the strips out a bit, and then stapling or taping them to the
                    tail end of the chidi.
