C - Chhatri Craft
Chhachha is introduced to the class generally around the rainy season which
makes the chhatri craft so much more enjoyable. The students will use cupcake
liners, pipe cleaners, cotton balls and their imagination to create a rainy day
collage. The craft is followed by the ‘Meeh Aaieaa’ song which involves actions
that accompany the words, aiding in the understanding of the wording.
Materials:
- Cupcake liners or coffee filters (2-3)
- pipe cleaners
- cotton balls (2-3)
- Crayons
- Scissors
- Glue
Method:
1. Flatten the cupcake liners so they appear to be the shape of an umbrella.
2. Glue them onto a blank sheet of construction paper, towards the top 1/3 of
the sheet.
3. Use a 5 inch piece of a pipe cleaner for the handle of the chhatri. Bend the
bottom of the pipe cleaner to form the handle. If pipe cleaners are not
available, students may draw the handles using crayons or markers.
4. Glue them under the inverted cupcake liners, see sample for reference.
5. Stretch out the cotton balls so they appear to be the shape of clouds. Glue
them on the paper towards the top of the sheet, above the chatris.
6. Use crayons or markers to draw whatever else the students wish to add
(birds, kites, raindrops, rainbow).
