BRIEF
Iced Chocolate set to Boom this Summer
Premium iced drinks are continuing to sell
well across the hospitality sector, and one
additional demand from the customer is to
step outside the coffee caddy.
After a season of success for hot chocolate,
frozen, frappé and iced chocolate drinks are
taking centre stage, whether they are dark,
milk or white chocolate flavoured.
Paired with other hero flavour combinations
such as pistachio and raspberry, chocolate
could very well be this summer’s big seller.

BRIEF
Coffee Clingfilm
There are many byproducts of coffee that end
up in landfill as waste. New research shows
that coffee pulp, husk, silverskin and spent
grounds could be used to help replace plastic
in food packaging films.
The research, carried out in Indonesia by a
team at Bina Nusantara University and from
Indonesia’s Coffee and Cocoa Research
Institute (ICCRI), revealed that byproducts can
be used as fillers or bioactive additives in bio-
based and edible films such as clingfilm and
plastic wrap.
