ALTERNATIVE
MILKS
Raising
Awareness
The Vegan Society confirm that dairy
alternatives have become increasingly popular
in recent years, with 1 in 3 people reported to
be buying plant-based milks regularly, including
soya, oat, coconut, almond, hazelnut, cashew,
hemp, rice and flax milks.
Rising awareness of global issues – including
animal rights, environmental concerns,
intolerances and other health issues – are just
some of the reasons why people across the
world are eschewing milk.
Although the environmental impact of different
types of plant milk varies, according to research,
plant milk is far more sustainable than cow’s
milk overall, as producing it requires less water
and land. Plant milk production also releases
fewer emissions, which is great news for both
animals and the planet.
Consumers are becoming more conscious of the
wider impact of what they choose to spend their
money on and clearly labelled plant-based
alternatives can make it easier for them to make
informed purchases.
