Remember:
Headlines often use a Noun Phrase, that is a phrase without a verb:
Headlines sering pula menggunakan frasa kata benda, yaitu prasa tanpa menggunakan
kata kerja:
Contoh :
- Poor Service at Supermarket.
- Best Strategies for New tax
- Thai protesters Parade
There are also some Verb Changes. The simple are preferred to continuous or perfect
forms and auxiliary verbs are dropped in the passive.
Terdapat pula perubahan penggunaan kata kerja. Bentuk simple (kata kerja 1)sering
digunakan untuk mengganti bentuk continuous (kata kerja1+ing), atau bentuk present
perfect menjadi bentuk pasif.
Contoh :
- Teachers Protest Pay Cuts (para guru melakukan protes terhadap
pemotongan gaji) / mereka sedang melakukan protes
- Underground Strike Started Today ( the strike has started today). Protes
bawah tanah dimulai hari ini. (pemogokan bawah tanah sudah mulai hari
ini.
The infinitive Tense is used to talk about the future.(The Infinitive Tense (to+verb1)
digunakan untuk menyatakan kegiatan/event yang akan datang).
Contoh :
President to Open New Art Gallery ( Presiden akan membuka Galeri seni baru)
New player to be hired by NBA ( Pemain baru akan disewa oleh NBA)
Paragraph pertama (Main event) berkaitan dengan judul berita, paragraph ke dua
(Background) erat kaitannya denganparagraf 1. Mari sekarang kita berlatih mengaitkan
main event (paragraph 1) dengan background (mulai dari Paragraf 2 )

A gang of robbers broke into the house of a shop owner in Villa Jatibening Housing
Complex in Bekasi and got away with jewelry and cash worth total of Rp.700 million
(US$73,500), on early Friday morning.
Bekasi police officers claimed four robbers were involved in the crime at the house of
Teddy Handoko, owner of a home improvement and construction shop.
The police believe that the robbers broke into the house after climbing the wall behind
Teddy’s housing complex, which directly borders a village. The 10-meter wall is
accessible from the village side, allowing the robbers to scale the wall using a thick rope.
The robbers found entering the house easy as its back door was unlocked.
The robbers locked up Teddy’s two housemaids, Tuheni and Tulika before breaking into
Teddu’s room. They threatened Teddy and his wife with a kitchen knife and made theie
escape. Police are investigating the case.
