AN F-35B LIGHTNING II LANDS ABOARD

GULF OF OMAN (Nov. 8, 2021) F-35B Lightning II attached
to Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 211, deployed
with the British Royal Navy aircraft carrier HMS Queen
Elizabeth, lands on the flight deck of the amphibious assault
ship USS Essex (LHD 2) during an interoperability exercise
with Queen Elizabeth, Nov. 8, 2021. Essex and the 11th Marine
Expeditionary Unit are deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of
operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime
stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the
Mediterranean and the Pacific through the western Indian

DURING MERCY EXERCISE (MERCEX) 22-1
IN THE PACIFIC OCEAN.
PACIFIC OCEAN (Nov. 10, 2021) An MV-22B Osprey assigned
to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 164, based at
Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Camp Pendleton, Calif.,
conducts flight operations aboard the Military Sealift Command
(MSC) hospital ship USNS Mercy (T-AH 19) during Mercy
Exercise (MERCEX) 22-1, Nov. 10, 2021. MERCEX 22-1 is a
three-week-long pierside and underway training evolution that
highlights integration, training and camaraderie between MSC
civilian mariners and MTF Sailors. USNS Mercy (T-AH 19)
can steam to assist anywhere to provide relief as a symbol of
Navy Medicine’s abilities around the world, and must be in a
five-day-activation status in order to support missions over the
horizon, and be ready, reliable and resilient to support mission

Command fleet replenishment oiler USNS Harvey Milk
(T-AO 206) slides into the water during its christening
ceremony at General Dynamics NASSCO in San Diego.
The ship honors Navy veteran and LGBT activist Harvey
Milk, one of the first openly gay candidates elected to
public office as a member of the San Francisco Board of
