Description: A saltpan (Braby 2011).
from a narrow belt of Salosa sp. hummocks that are Numbers breeding:
immediately inland of the beach. Parts of the plains have Year No. of pairs
scattered plants or lichens, whilst in other areas barren, dry

recent estimates of abundance, Braby’s (2011) minima 1983/84 5
were used to estimate the species’ present minimum 1984/85 3
population (Braby et al. 2024a). These sometimes differed
from values listed below. The most up-to-date estimates of 2009 √
Damara Terns suggest 122 pairs, or c. 16% of the global
population (Braby et al. 2024b), bred in the northern portion Mile 100
