General Microbiology & Immunology (PM 401) Second level Semester 4 2024/2025

What is the difference between bacterial endospores & fungal spores???

                  Reproduction in Fungi

                  1- Asexual spores
                    • Formed by the aerial mycelium of one organism

                    • Result in organisms that are genetically identical to the parent.

                  2-Sexual spores
                    • Result from the fusion from two opposite mating strains of the same species

                        of fungus

                    • Result in organisms having genetic characteristics of both parent strains.

                                              1- Asexual spores

                  A-Arthrospores

Fragmentation of septate hyphae into single, thickened cells such as

                  Coccidioides immitis

                  B- Chlamydospores
Thick-walled spore formed as segments within hyphae or at

hyphal tips such as Candida albican

                  C- Sporangiospores
Sporangiospores are spores that are produced in an enclosed,

sac-like structure, called a sporangium, at the end of the

                  sporangiophores.

                  Such as Rhizopus & Mucor
