CBP Police officer killed in training exercise
US Customs and Border Protection officer 40-year-old Jorge Arias was accidentally shot and killed by a
fellow officer during a Force-on-Force training exercise at a Miami-Dade gun range. He died at the
hospital.

CBP Police officer killed in training exercise
There is limited information available for this case, however this what we do know:
CBP officer Jorge Arias was a firearms instructor, working in that capacity on that day.
Officers were conducting a building search training exercise.
One of the other unidentified instructors left the training area and returned without going through the
safety protocol: self, buddy and instructor pat down / searches.
When the other unidentified instructor left the area, he replaced his training weapon with his live gun.
Upon his return the other unidentified instructor never secured his live gun and/or replaced it with his
training weapon.
CBP officer Jorge Arias was subsequently shot twice in the chest by the other unidentified instructor
during a demonstration and was killed.
