What is an argumentative text
Definition of Argumentative Text
Argumentative text is text whose contents are opinions which are supported by evidence,
reasons and examples, so that readers can trust the author's arguments. This argumentative text
is similar to persuasive text. Both also contain elements of persuasion or subtle persuasion, so
that readers are confident in what they read. Then, both present the core argument, which is
then complemented by supporting arguments and various evidence.
Characteristics of an argumentative main essay:
1. A clear thesis itself: A thesis is a statement that states the main author's views on the
topic being discussed. The thesis must be specific, measurable, limited, and capable of
debate.
2. Supported by evidence and data: Evidence and data can be in the form of facts,
statistics, examples, testimonials, research and other reliable information.
3. Well structured: Argumentative essays must have a clear structure and be easy to
understand.
4. Body of text: Presents the main points of argumentation and supporting evidence. Each
main point of the argument must be discussed in a separate paragraph.
5. Conclusion: Summarize the main argument, reiterate the thesis, and provide a
conclusion.
6. Use persuasive language: The writer must use clear, precise and persuasive language to
convince the reader. The language used must be appropriate to the target reader.
Generic Structure of Argumentative Text
Argumentative text is type purposeful text for convincing reader about something view or
argument certain through logic and strong evidence. Structure argumentative text usually
consists of five parts main: introduction, three paragraph body, and conclusion. Following is
