CHAPTER 2

                                             CHOOSING A GOOD TOPIC
               Criteria Good Topic
Choosing a topic for a good argumentative text requires considering several important
criteria to ensure the text is effective and interesting. Here are some criteria that can be used

                  to choose the right topic:
                      1. The topic must be controversial and have two strong sides to the argument. This

allows the author to develop an in-depth and comprehensive argument.

                      2. The topic must be relevant to current issues and interesting to today's audience.
Topics that are up-to-date are more likely to attract readers' attention.

                      3. Topics that are too broad can be difficult to argue deeply within the scope of the text.
Choose a specific and focused topic so that the argument can be developed in detail.

                      4. Make sure there are enough credible and trustworthy resources to support the

arguments you will convey. Data, facts, and solid research will strengthen the text.
                      5. Choose a topic that is of interest to the writer himself. Personal interest in the topic

will motivate the writer to conduct more in-depth research and write with more
                          enthusiasm.

                      6. Avoid topics that are too sensitive or have the potential to unnecessarily offend your

audience. Even though the topic must be controversial, maintain politeness and
                          ethics in choosing the topic.

                      7. Topics that have practical implications in real life tend to be more interesting.
Readers will be more engaged if they can see how the topic impacts their lives.

By considering these criteria, writers can choose topics that not only fulfill the purpose

of an argumentative text but are also interesting and relevant to their audience.

Filter Topic Based on Interests And Knowledge
Selecting a topic for an argumentative text based on importance and knowledge requires

strategic steps to ensure the topic is relevant, interesting, and can be argued well. Here's how
               to filter those topics:

                      1. Evaluate Personal Interests
                             • Make a list of topics you are interested in. Think about issues you often

                                 discuss or read about.

                             • Choose a topic that makes you excited and motivated to write. Personal
enthusiasm will make the writing process more enjoyable and authentic.
