                    (saas)], stag gered as he ap proached the Prophet (saas), who was
                    hum bly ab sorbed in prayer. Before Abu Jahl was able to get close
                    enough to the Prophet (saas), he turned back in death ly fright. His
                    hand had start ed to with er on the stone, where up on he dropped it
                    and ran as fast as he could. Some Qurayshis rushed to ward him and
                    asked what had come over him. He told them he had seen a ter ri fy -
                    ing cam el with a tre men dous ly large head, enor mous shoul ders, and
                    a fear some set of teeth that looked as if it was about to de vour him if
                    he con tin ued. Later on, the Prophet (saas) told his Companions that
                    the cam el was none oth er than Gabriel and that if Abu Jahl had per -
                    sist ed, he would in deed have seized him.   47
                    As our Prophet (saas) was al ways un der Allah's pro tec -
               tion, all traps laid against him were turned aside so that Allah's
               prom ise was al ways ful filled. Believing that Allah had cre at ed
               ap par ent ly dif fi cult sit u a tions and that He would bring ev ery -
               thing to the best con clu sion, our Prophet (saas) con tin ued to

               pro claim Islam with out suf fer ing any harm. Due to his deep
               trust in Allah and en dur ance, the Lord gave him the strength to
               pre vail.



                              The mir a cles in the cave


                    According to doc u ments from Islamic and his tor i cal sour -
               ces, the Prophet (saas) left his home on 27 Safar, four teen years
               aft er Allah had be stowed pro pheth ood up on him, and went to
               Abu Bakr's (ra) house. Later, they left Mecca to geth er. Our
               Prophet (saas) knew that his en e mies would first look for him
               on the north ern road to Madinah. Therefore, they took the
               south ern road lead ing to Yemen. After walk ing about 6 kil o me -
                tres (5 miles), they came to the Thawr Mountain, which was
