high as well as dif fi cult and dan ger ous to climb. They hid in a
cave lo cat ed in the moun tain known as Athal. 48
In the mean time, the Quraysh blocked all of the roads and
sta tioned armed men to con trol them. Men on foot and mounts
combed the moun tain slopes and val leys, search ing for foot -
prints. When they came right up to the cav e's mouth, the
Prophet Muhammad (saas) put his whole trust in Allah:

If you do not help him, Allah did help him when the un be -
liev ers drove him out and there were two of them in the
cave. He said to his com pan ion: "Do not be de spond ent,
Allah is with us." Then Allah sent down His se ren i ty up on
him and re in forced him with troops you could not see. He
made the word of the un be liev ers un der most. (Surat at-
Tawba: 40)
Allah tells in the Qur'an that our Prophet (saas) sub mit ted
to Allah and was re signed to his fate. But the Lord as sist ed him,
in re turn for his ex cel lent mor al char ac ter and trust, by grant -

ing him phys i cal health and strength and a sense of se cu ri ty
and well-be ing in his heart.
Many peo ple might con sid er such a dan ger ous sit u a tion
su per fi cial ly, with out feel ing the anx i e ty of that mo ment, for
those who are not tar gets can not know such anx i e ty. For ex am -
ple, those who have nev er been pur sued by an en e my can not
know the wake ful vig i lance of our Prophet (saas) as he hid in
mor tal dan ger in the cave. It is very im por tant for ev ery one
with faith to think care ful ly about this sit u a tion in or der to ap -

pre ci ate prop er ly our Prophet's (saas) great self-sac ri fice, pa -
tience, and wis dom.
But, as in oth er sit u a tions through out his life, here too
Allah mi rac u lous ly de liv ered our Prophet (saas). When
