Abu Bakr (ra) felt afraid, lest the un be liev ers would find and harm
them. However, the Prophet (saas) was cer tain of Allah's pro tec tion
and sup port, and so re as sured Abu Bakr (ra).
On the au thor i ty of Anas (ra), Imam Ahmad re port ed that Abu
Bakr al-Siddiq (ra) said: "I was with the Prophet (saas) in the cave
and, on see ing the tra ces of the pa gans, said: 'O Messenger of Allah,
if one of them should lift his foot, he will see us.' He re plied: 'What
do you think? For two (peo ple), the third (of whom) is Allah?'" Al-
Bukhari and Muslim al so re port ed the same had ith.
Therefore Allah says, "then Allah sent his sa ki na up on him" that is,
He sent His peace, tran quil li ty, and sup port up on His Messenger
(saas) and "sup port ed him with for ces you saw not": an gels. As for
the verse "and made the word of the un be liev ers while it was the
Word of Allah that be came up per most," Ibn Abbas said: "The word
of the un be liev er re fers to as so ci at ing part ners with Allah, while the
word of Allah re fers to 'La ila ha il la Allah.'" 49
The Lord helped our Prophet (saas) with many mir a cles,
de fend ed him with an gels, com fort ed his heart, and pre vent ed
his en e mies from harm ing him. Allah pro tects, de fends, and
watch es; He is the best of help ers and all pow er be longs to
Him.
Our Prophet (saas) ac com plished ev ery thing with Allah's
help:
If they in tend to de ceive you, Allah is enough for you. He
sup port ed you with His help and with the be liev ers. (Surat
al-Anfal: 62)
But if you sup port one an oth er against him, Allah is his
Protector, and so are Gabriel and ev ery right-act ing be liev -
