At those times when war was un a void a ble, the Lord as -
sist ed our Prophet (saas) with many mir a cles, among them
send ing an gels to give the Muslims vic to ry over su pe ri or en e -
my for ces:
Allah helped you at Badr when you were weak, so fear [and
re spect] Him, so that, hope ful ly, you will be thank ful.
(Surah Al 'Imran: 123)

Although the sin cere Muslims were far few er than their
en e mies, they fought in the field with great cour age be hind our
Prophet (saas) and, with Allah's sup port, won great vic to ries.
Allah tells us in the Qur'an that He sup port ed them with an gels
and an nounced that the an gels would help them:

And when you asked the be liev ers: "Is it not enough for
you that your Lord re in forced you with three thou sand an -
gels, sent down?" Yes in deed! But if you are stead fast and
have fear of [and re spect for] Allah and they come up on you
sud den ly, your Lord will re in force you with five thou sand
an gels, clear ly iden ti fied. Allah on ly did this for it to be
good news for you, so that your hearts might be set at rest
by it (help comes from no one but Allah, the Almighty, the
All-Wise), and so that He might cut off or crush a group of
un be liev ers they might be turned back in de feat. (Surah Al
'Imran: 124-27)
In oth er words, He sent the good news of an gels' as sist -
ance to sat is fy the Muslims' hearts. Of course, this was the on -
ly rea son Allah need ed. If He wills, He can de feat un be liev ers
with a sin gle blow or drive them in to the depths of the earth
with in mi nutes or sec onds. Allah states in the Qur'an that many
un be liev ers per ish ed in an un ex pect ed mo ment due to a sin gle
sound, cy clone, or sud den dis as ter or that they were con -

fused and bur ied be neath the ground. Of course,
