tween the Muslims and the un be liev ers, and made each par ty ap -
pear less in the eyes of the oth er so that they would not fear the bat -
tle. However, when the two ar mies ac tu al ly met, Allah sup port ed
the Muslims with 1,000 an gels so that the un be liev ers would see the
Muslims as twice their ac tu al num ber. As Allah says: "There was
a sign for you in the two ar mies that met (in the Battle of
Badr): one ar my fight ing in the Cause of Allah, and an oth er
un be liev ing, whom they saw as twice their num ber, clear ly,
with their very eyes. Thus Allah sup ports with His Victory
whom He wills. Verily, in this is a les son for those who un -
der stand." (Surah Al 'Imran: 13) 58
Another mir a cle at this time was the Muslims' lack of fear
and hes i tan cy. Allah informs us in the Qur'an that un be liev ers
had many pow er ful sol diers on their side and tried to op press
the Muslim mi nor i ty. In this sit u a tion, the be liev ers turned in
sin cer i ty to Allah and placed them selves in His hands. As a re -

sult, they were abun dant ly bless ed and had a safe re turn:
… those to whom peo ple said: "The peo ple have gath ered
against you, so fear them." But that mere ly in creased their
be lief and they said: "Allah is enough for us and the Best of
Guardians." So they re turned with bless ings and boun ty
from Allah, and no evil touched them. They pur sued the
pleas ure of Allah. Allah's fa vor is in deed im mense. (Surah
                     Al 'Imran: 173-74)
Those who al ways trust ed in Allah com plete ly and placed
them selves in His hands lived ac cord ing to the Qur'an's mor al

teach ings and sought to win His ap prov al in ev ery thing they
did. In re turn, Allah gave them a sense of se cu ri ty and well-be -
ing and, even in the most dif fi cult cir cum stan ces, caused them
to live a good life and at tain great wealth from the spoils of
                      war.
