It seems that Allah less ened the ap par ent num -
ber of un be liev ers in the Muslims' eyes and
made the Muslims ap pear as few in the un be liev -
ers' eyes when they met each oth er at the bat tle
of Badr … As for the un be liev ers, they saw the
Muslims as twice their num ber so that fear and
pan ic would over whelm them. This is ex em pli -
fied in Allah's say ing: "They saw them with
their own eyes as twice their num ber," mean ing:
they saw 2,000 Muslim sol diers with their own
eyes, as a sup port from Allah. For this rea son,
Allah says: "But Allah sup ports with His vic to -
ry whom He wills. Verily, in this is a les son for
those who have eyes." In oth er words, He
strength ens the be liev ers and hu mil i ates the un -
be liev ers. 56
Allah states in many vers es that Allah

as sists those be liev ers who de pend on Him to -
tal ly in times of dif fi cul ty and dis tress, and
that He will pro vide a way out of ap par ent ly
hope less sit u a tions:
Whoever fears [and re spects] Allah – He
will give him a way out and pro vide for
him from where he does not ex pect.
Whoever trusts Allah – He will be enough
for him. Allah al ways achieves His aim.
Allah has ap point ed a meas ure for all
things. (Surat al-Talaq: 2-3)
