                     By a mir a cle of Allah, the be liev ers were vic to ri ous.
                 However, this was not due to their su pe ri or num bers; rath er, it
                 was due to the in tel li gence, in sight, wis dom, and fine mor al
                 char ac ter with which Allah had bless ed our Prophet (saas).
                 Allah says that He some times in tim i dat ed the un be liev ers by
                 show ing them that the be liev ers were far more nu mer ous and
                 pow er ful:

                     There was a sign for you in the two par ties that met face to
                     face, one par ty fight ing in the Way of Allah and the oth er
                     con sist ing of un be liev ers. You saw them as twice their
                     num ber with your own eyes. Allah re in for ces with His help
                     who ev er He wills. There is in struc tion in that for peo ple of
                          in sight. (Surah Al 'Imran: 13)
                                             The Tafsir al-Jalalayn ex plains this
                                                verse as fol lows:

                                                    Certainly there is a les son for
                                                      you, for war, in the two
                                                       groups that met at Badr.
                                                      One bat tled on the path of
                                                     Allah, in obe di ence to Him:
                                                     the Prophet (saas) and his
                                                       Companions, 313 peo ple,
                                                        to geth er with two hors es,
                                                         six suits of ar mor, and
                                                           eight swords. Most
                                                              were on foot. The
