Then go to 'Uth man, whom you will find in the mar ket sell ing
and buy ing, and give him the glad tid ings of the Garden aft er

Al-Tabarani nar rat ed from Zayd ibn Thabit, who said that
he heard the Prophet (saas) say: "Uthman passed by me while
one of the an gels was with me, and the lat ter said: 'This is a

mar tyr whose peo ple will kill him. We are shy of him.'" 95

Ali's (ra) mar tyr dom

Al-Hakim (who de clared it sound) and Abu Nu`aym nar -
rat ed from 'Am mar ibn Yasir that the Prophet said to 'A li: "The
most griev ous of all peo ple is he that shall strike you here," in -
di cat ing his tem ple, "un til blood soaks this," in di cat ing his
beard. 96

Al-Tabarani and Abu Nu`aym nar rat ed from Jabir ibn
Samurah, who said: The Messenger of Allah said to 'A li: "You
will be giv en lead er ship and the cal i phate; and tru ly, this will
be dyed red with this," mean ing his beard with [the blood
from] his head. 97
Al-Hakim nar rat ed from Anas, who said: I went in with the Prophet
(saas) to see `Ali, who lay sick, while Abu Bakr and `Umar were vis -
it ing him. One of them said to the oth er: "I do not think that he will
sur vive," where up on the Messenger of Allah (saas) said: "In truth,
he shall not die oth er than [by be ing] mur dered. 98
