as a surprise but the way that these microorganisms work non-stop

for several million years is actually evidence that they were creat-
ed in the interests of human beings, meeting needs whose lack
would leave us quite helpless.
Recent research on the ocean floor has revealed another hither-
to unknown fact about bacteria. As we know, bacteria represent the
main link in the food chain by means of photosynthesis, nitrogen
fixation and fermentation. Studies carried out on the ocean floor
300 meters (984,25 feet) beneath the sea have revealed another hith-
erto unknown fact about bacteria. Newly discovered bacteria live
hundreds of meters beneath the sea, feed on rocks in the sea bed,
and there perform a fundamental food function for life.
Hubert Staudigel, of
a team affiliated to the
University of California
Scripps Institution of
Oceanography, stated
that the sea bed was cov-
ered with these bacteria,
and that no location was
without them.
THE MICROWORLD MIRACLE Thanks to the superior mech-
anisms they possess, bacte-
ria carry out a great many
miracles that human beings
are unable to, and the secrets
of which they are even some-
times unable to penetrate.
The role they play in the for-
mation of oil clearly demon-
70 strates this fact.
