23. Disorder in Damascus, Iraq, and Arabian Peninsula:

Our Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "There
will be such troub les and ca lam i ties that no body will be able to find a
place of shel ter. These woes will move around Sham, fall up on Iraq, and
tie the hands and feet of the Arabian Peninsula. The com mu ni ty of Is-
lam will fight against troub les in the step pes. Nobody will feel any sym -
pa thy for them or even say: "Alas!" As they try to rem e dy their woes
on the one hand, they will emerge again on the oth er." (Muntakhab
Kanz al-'Ummal, vol. 5, pp. 38-39.)

The ex pres sion, "the woes will move around Sham, fall up on Iraq"
may well in di cate the Second Gulf War in 2003. Before and dur ing this
war, there was al ways the pos si bil i ty of the con flict ex tend ing in to Syria,
how e ver the war re mained lim it ed to Iraq.
