lips, but in his heart he har bors de ceit. Though his speech is

charm ing, do not be lieve him, for sev en abom i na tions fill his
heart. His mal ice may be con cealed by de cep tion, but his wick ed -
ness will be ex posed in the as sem bly. If a man digs a pit, he will
fall in to it; if a man rolls a stone, it will roll back on him. A ly -
ing tongue hates those it hurts, and a flat ter ing mouth works ru -
            in. (Proverbs, 26:1-28)

Do not boast about to mor row, for you do not know what a day
may bring forth. Let an oth er praise you, and not your own
mouth; some one else, and not your own lips. Stone is heavy and
sand a bur den, but prov o ca tion by a fool is heav i er than both.
Anger is cru el and fu ry over whelm ing... Better is open re buke
than hid den love. Wounds from a friend can be trust ed... Per-
fume and in cense bring joy to the heart, and the ear nest coun sel
of one's friend is sweet to the soul. (Proverbs, 27:1-9)

As iron sharp ens iron, so one man sharp ens an oth er... As wa ter
re flects a face, so a man's heart re flects the man. Sheol [hell] and
destruction are nev er sat is fied, and nei ther are the eyes of man.
The cru ci ble for sil ver and the fur nace for gold, but man is test ed

by the praise he re ceives. (Proverbs, 27:17-21)

The wick ed man flees though no one pur sues, but the right eous
are as bold as a li on. When a coun try is re bel lious, it has many
rul ers, but a man of un der stand ing and knowl edge main tains or -
der. A poor man who op press es the poor is like a driv ing rain

that leaves no crops. Those who for sake the law praise the wick -
ed, but those who keep the law re sist them. Evil men do not un -
der stand jus tice, but those who seek the Lord un der stand it ful -
ly. Better a poor man whose walk is blame less than a rich man
