The proud and ar ro gant man—"Mocker" is his name; he be haves
with over ween ing pride. The slug gard's crav ing will be the death
of him, be cause his hands refuse to work. All day long he craves
for more, but the right eous give with out spar ing... A wick ed man
puts up a bold front, but an up right man gives thought to his
ways. There is no wis dom, no in sight, no plan that can suc ceed
against the Lord. The horse is made ready for the day of bat tle,
but vic to ry rests with the Lord. (Proverbs, 21:1-31)
... To be es teemed is bet ter than sil ver or gold. Rich and poor have
this in com mon: The Lord is the Maker of them all... Humility
and the fear of the Lord bring wealth and hon or and life. In the
paths of the wick ed lie thorns and snares, but he who guards his
soul stays far from them. Train a child in the way he should go,
and when he is old he will not turn from it... He who sows wick -
ed ness reaps troub le, and the rod of his fu ry will be de stroyed. A
gen er ous man will him self be bless ed, for he shares his food
with the poor. Drive out the mock er, and out goes strife; quar rels
and in sults are end ed... The eyes of the Lord keep watch over
knowl edge, but He frus trates the words of the un faith ful... He
who op press es the poor to in crease his wealth... will come to pov -
er ty. (Proverbs, 22:1-16)
Pay at ten tion and lis ten to the say ings of the wise; ap ply your
heart to what I teach, for it is pleas ing when you keep them in
your heart and have all of them ready on your lips. So that your
trust may be in the Lord, I teach you to day, even you. Have I not
