            noth ing about this," does not He Who weighs the heart per ceive

            it? Does not He Who guards your life know it? Will He not re pay
            each per son ac cord ing to what he has done? Eat hon ey, my son,
            for it is good; hon ey from the comb is sweet to your taste. Know
            al so that wis dom is sweet to your soul; if you find it, there is a fu -
            ture hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off. Do not lie in
            wait like an out law against a right eous man's house, do not raid
            his dwell ing place; for though a right eous man falls sev en times,
            he ris es again, but the wick ed are brought down by ca lam i ty. Do
            not gloat when your en e my falls; when he stum bles, do not let

            your heart re joice, or the Lord will see and dis ap prove... Do not
            fret be cause of evil men or be en vi ous of the wick ed, for the evil
            man has no fu ture hope... Fear the Lord... my son, and do not
            join with the re bel lious... These al so are say ings of the wise: To
            show par ti al i ty in judg ing is not good: Whoever says to the
            guilty, "You are in no cent"—peo ples will curse him and na tions
            de nounce him... Do not tes ti fy against your neigh bor with out

            cause, or use your lips to de ceive. Do not say, "I'll do to him as he
            has done to me; I'll pay that man back for what he did." I went
            past the field of the slug gard, past the vine yard of the man who
            lacks judg ment; thorns had come up ev ery where, the ground was
            cov ered with weeds, and the stone wall was in ru ins. I ap plied
            my heart to what I ob served and learned a les son from what I
            saw: A lit tle sleep, a lit tle slum ber, a lit tle fold ing of the hands to
            rest—and pov er ty will come on you like a ban dit and scar ci ty like
            an armed man. (Proverbs, 24:1-34)
