Although this is a time-consuming and
41painstaking knot formation, the characters
in the work provide a splendid display of the
knotting technique of the modified pan chang
knot at its best.
TYING INSTRUCTIONS
1. Use a single cord to tie a series of lingzhi knots
to form a decorative outer circle.
2. Lay out the characters in the center first on a
board, then only knot them.Take special care with
the sharing and conjoining cord sections among
the squares and between the upper body (trian-
gle) of the figures and the head.
This beautiful design is made by using
42 modified polygonal pan chang knots with
hollow centers to create two overlapping squares
on the outside and a vacant space in the knot
center to accommodate all incoming cords.
TYING INSTRUCTIONS
1.To avoid getting into a mess when knotting
the modified pan chang knots with hollow cen-
ters, it is essential to lay out the design first.
2. Upon reaching two bends on the outer circle,
take another cord and start knotting the inner
circle. Upon completing three of the eight petal-
shaped sides, take another cord to knot the inner-
most circle.Tighten this part first, then carry
on with the rest. This tactic will help to avoid
confusion and a messy result.
