The Famous Grouse Experience The Glenturret, Scotland’s oldest working distillery, had its
origins among the smugglers and illicit stills of the 18th century.

Whisky booms and prohibition might have ruffled its feathers, but The Glenturret scotch malt
whisky, still made by hand in the traditional way, weathered all these challenges and has matured
into an enduring brand that remains as the only traditionally hand mashed whisky in Scotland.

It is now the home of The Famous Grouse Experience, named for The Famous Grouse, one of
        Scotland’s best known blended whiskies.

Doune Castle is a magnificent 14th century fortification. Its most striking feature is the 100ft high
gatehouse which includes the splendid Lord’s Hall with its musicians’ gallery, double fireplace and
        carved oak screen.

Discover the new nature trail in the castle grounds or take an audio tour of the castle narrated by
Monty Python’s Terry Jones. Hear the exciting history of the medieval castle and residents, as well
as stories of the making of Monty Python and the Holy Grail which was filmed at the
castle. Visitors can hear clips from the film and find out about the alternative history of Spamalot,
elderberries, African swallows and wooden badgers.

        Side trips:

Culross Palace is not royal and it’s not even a palace. But Culross is a delightful town with historic
buildings along cobbled streets that haven’t changed much in 300 years. The “Palace” is a superb
example of 17th century domestic architecture. The exterior uses crow-stepped gables, including a
statue of a veiled woman posing on the gable step. The palace features fine interiors, with
decorative mural and ceiling painting, 17th and 18th century furniture and a fine collection of
        Staffordshire and Scottish pottery.

Falkirk Wheel Designed to reconnect the Forth and Clyde Canal and the Union Canal. This
remarkable and elegant mechanical marvel is the only rotating boatlift in the world. It raises boats
by 24 metres (79 ft), but the Union Canal is still 11 metres (36 ft) higher than the aqueduct which
meets the wheel. Boats must also pass through a pair of locks between the top of the wheel and
        the Union Canal.

Gleneagles A blend of natural beauty and golfing adventure, the three championship golf courses
at Gleneagles are regarded among the very best in the world. The inspiration of two of the
greatest names in the game, five times Open winner James Braid and the Golden Bear himself,
Jack Nicklaus, the courses offer challenges for all levels of player.

Tullibardine Whisky Distillery Brewing and distilling has had a turbulent history in the town of
Blackford for over six centuries. In 1488, James IV stopped at a brewery here to buy a barrel of
beer after his coronation at Scone.

Distilling has been tried off and on over the centuries, not always successfuly, but the Tullibardine
operation, which is quite recent, has set a course to prodiuce a high quality single malt whisky.
You can see the malting and distilling processes in action on tours that cover the entire production
from grain to finished, bottled spirit. And you get a wee taste of that finished product.
