9.1 mi 50.8223, 0.34215 Follow the A259 through Eastbourne and Pevensey (take a look at
        Pevensey Castle) to the i/s with the A27. Pick up the track after the Pevensey Roundabout
        instruction below to remain on the A259.

        5.4 mi  50.8223, 0.3421 At the Pevensey Roundabout, take the 4th exit from the r/bout s/p
        “Pevensey A259” to visit the village and Pevensey Castle. The castle is a short distance down
        High St.

        Otherwise, to keep on keeping on take the 2nd exit on to the A259 s/p “Bexhill / Hastings / A259”.


        Stay on the A259 through Pevensey to Hastings and Winchelsea.

        Side Trip to Battle


        Like to go the the site of the stoush between King Harold and the Norman invaders led by William
        the Conqueror? Well, actually, he wasn’t the “Conqueror” until after the battle. Up until then he
        was better known as William The Bastard.


        Coming from the west, as you come into Bexhill-on-Sea, there’s a set of traffic lights. The the l.
        turn s/posted “Battle A2100”. From there just follow the signs to Battle.

        From Hastings . . .

        At 50.8516, 0.5606 In Hastings, as you travel along the waterfront from the west look for a little
        bus shelter on the seaward side of the road. There’s a green-and-white sign on the left that says
        “London A21 / Battle (A2100)”.  Turn l. at the lights on to the A2102.  The Bon Jour Cafe  is on the
        corner.

        Coming from the other direction, after passing Hastings Pier, go past Warrior Square with the
        statue of Queen Victoria staring out to sea, and look for a little bus shelter on the seaward side.
        Turn r. on to the A2102. The Bon Jour Cafe  is on the corner.


        Either way . . .


        Follow the A2102, bearing slightly left on to the A21, s/p “London (A21) / Battle (A2100)”.

        After 0.2 mi bear l. on to Battle Rd, the B2159.  There’s a sign “Battle (A2100)” on the side of a
        Barclays Bank building on the r. and there’s an ASDA on the l.

        At the r/bout 1.9 mi later take the 2nd exit s/p “Battle” to remain on Battle Rd, now the A2100.


        3.1 mi later, GPS 50.915 / 0.4861, after going through one r/bout, arrive in the village of Battle.
        The abbey will be on your left behind the stone walls. There’s a carpark just past the abbey gate.


        11.6 mi  50.9500, 0.7285 At the Kettle Of Fish Roundabout in Rye, take the 3rd exit to remain on
        the A259 into Rye.


        Just past that turn, on the l. is the Rye Heritage Centre, an ideal introduction to the town bringing
        together the story of Rye set within the famous Rye Town Model sound and light show. Historic
        Walking Tours are  available for hire, with guided ghost and historic tours available on selected
        dates during the year.


        Parking:  There is a car park on your left as you make that turn. It’s to the left of the Kettle O’ Fish
        Takeaways.
