Earl and Thelma on their 21st anniversary

A Ride They Will Never Forget

“Mom and Dad’s 21st anniversary fell on a Sunday, which gave us the perfect opportunity to pull a little good‐
natured prank on them. I master‐minded the plan, Mike helped, and Dora served as the “look‐out.” Mike and I

sneaked out of church a little early that day and decorated their car complete with signs, balloons and tin cans
tied to the bumper. As people were leaving the church, Mom and Dad could see that people were pointing
and laughing, but they couldn’t tell what was causing the commotion. Then they discovered that it was our car
that was the subject of attention. Dad surveyed the situation, and when he saw the cans tied to the back, he

snickered, and said, ‘I’m not driving THAT home.’ I said, ‘Fine, I’ll drive! Hop in the back!’ That was a decision
that he would long regret because I took them on the slow, scenic route, driving through the neighborhoods
and beeping the horn all the way! When Dad tried to slouch down in the seat and become invisible, Mom

reprimanded him to sit up tall and be proud he married her.” Earlene Davison Giglierano
