OPERATIONAL DEFINITION
Percentage of academic staff involved as principal investigators of university grants research
projects.
Notes:
1. Number of principal investigators and not number of projects.
2. A principal investigator can only be counted once under the category of International,
Industry, National or University Grant.
3. Principal investigator is counted based on date of commencement of research and
distribution of funding.
4. To be counted, the grant should meet a minimum of:
S&T - RM 10,000
Non-S&T - RM 5,000 107
ACTION PLAN SCHOOLS/DEPARTMENTS
INVOLVED
• Establish proposal bank for each type of grant
• RIMC must always post announcements of grant RIMC and Schools
offerings to researchers
• Every researcher without research work must submit
two proposals, at the beginning of the year (by March)
and the end of the year (by September)
• Principal investigator/researcher must submit progress
report periodically.
• Set cap for all lecturers to secure at least RM20,000
research grant
MONITORING MECHANISM
• Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation) and Research & Innovation Management
Centre must be involved in the process of promotion of academic staff
• Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation) must evaluate Deans in performance
appraisal exercise to ensure alignment with strategic planning
• Quarterly performance appraisal
