SUPPORT SERVICES

             RESULTS

KPI 1 | JOINT OPERATIONS WITH KEY STAKEHOLDERS

Karingani’s official security mandate and jurisdiction lie within the reserve’s fenced boundary. However, in
line with National Mozambique protocols, Karingani maintains a strong relationship with both international
and national security stakeholders and government toward sharing wildlife crime intelligence, supporting
external security operations and collation and analysis of data towards predicting security threats. In addition
to this, Karingani continues to collaborate with Kruger National Park in cross-border, Karingani managed
communications and shared digital platforms for the monitoring of both field rangers and incursion events.
Regular operational support and staffing is extended to the ANAC security response teams in their efforts
of combating wildlife crime and mitigating human wildlife conflict in neighbouring communities outside of
                      the Karingani protected area.

Karingani site visit by GKEPF CEO, Sharon Haussmann 11 November 2020
During this reporting period, intelligence was shared with Fauna Bravia in Gaza province on 23 occasions relating
to various environmental and security crimes, including tracks, poached animals, hunting dogs, contacts made
and poacher sightings. Six external follow-ups were conducted into community area with permission granted from
respective authorities resulting in one contact in the north and tracing of stolen Xinghana solar panels into Cubo
community. Unfortunately, interference from both human and domestic livestock outside the reserve resulted in
tracks lost for most of the other follow-ups.

KPI 2 | LEGAL COMPLIANCE AND PROCESSES

Working in close collaboration with the district and provincial prosecution authorities and ANAC has resulted in
the correct procedures and protocols regarding arrests and chain of evidence in supporting state prosecutors with
imposing significant penalties for poaching related offenses. The two arrests made during this reporting period are
currently pending court rulings. Feedback on arrested suspects from the last report:

Arrests 5 (2019/20) Twelve years prison sentencing

Arrests 6 (2019/20) Awaiting feedback on levels of sentencing
