KPI 6 | POACHER CONTACTS AND ARRESTS
In line with Karingani’s ethos of data collection and analysis utilising advanced technologies to address poaching
threats and track outcomes of effort, the ‘contact rate’ is a key indicator of the efficiency and a reliable measure of
effort by the Karingani security forces towards disruption poaching activity. Measured as a proportion of the number
of actionable poaching events, this reporting period reflects an increase in efficiency of the counter-poaching teams
being able to make contact and disrupt poaching incursions. This significant increase can be attributed to increased
efficiency of the follow-up process in two forms: utilising K9 assets to increase speed and reliability of track pursuit;
and the recent addition of the R44 helicopter that has increased deployment efficiency by 296% compared to last
reporting period.
