Sis
(chapter one: She’s Dead)
The sound of rain banging on the old tin roof filled my ears as I doodled on my homework. As the rain
quieted down and the fog cleared up, I suddenly heard the sound of voices coming from downstairs. It's my
parents and the police, again. I leap o my rock hard bed and hurry down the stairs trying not to make a
sound. I crouch behind the dirty kitchen counters and spy on them.
“I’m sorry, Mr and Miss Blaine but we have searched everywhere, we have asked strangers if they have seen Rosie
but all of them said no…” Whispered the o cer.
“She has to be… dead.” whispered the other o cer.
“WHAT!” I shout at them with tears flowing down my cheeks.
I run up the stairs without letting them say one word to me. I enter my room, I sit on my old squeaky chair
and lay my face flat on the desk while tears uncontrollably fill up my eyes and roll down my pale face.
Finally, I lift my head o the desk and look out the window, ignoring the blinding street light right
outside my house. The bright yellow moon lit up the whole sky as I wiped the millions of tears that were
making my face glow in the light. I put in my earphones to see what music I left playing. I put my head back
and listen. “ELSA!” a girl shouts. I jump out of my chair in a fright, pulling the earphones out of my ears.
“Sister?” I ask.
“Sister” She replies.

“I've always wanted to explore these woods!” Said Rosie as she skipped into the darkness of the woods.
“Wait up!”I shout.
I finally caught up with her. I look at the old trees and the swampy, dead grass. I don’t have a good feeling
about this mysterious place. “Rosie, it's getting dark to let us go now,” I tell her as I start turning the
other way.
I look behind me as I wait for Rosie to answer. I turn back around to see why she is not responding. “ROSIE!” I
scream.
