The Last Standing

I sat there wondering if what is done could be undone….
I weakly opened my eyes. I rolled and kicked off my soft blanket and stood up. I

spent a while staring at the paint falling off the walls. It was strangely silent. I
stumbled out of my room into the family room. There was no one there. I thought
it was a dumb prank at first so I went into my mother’s room and she was nowhere

to be seen. My heart sped up, and I forced myself to run outside. My eyes scanned
the yard, no one was there. I ran back into my room and grabbed my phone off my
bed and turned it on. It was on 1% charge. I glimpsed at the date then I realised it

was the date they were all telling us to prepare for. It was all over the news the
            night before.
I came to the idea to go to my neighbor’s and see if they knew anything. I ran out

and trudged down the front stairs, barefoot, and waddled across the wet cold
grassland. I ran up my neighbor’s driveway and knocked. There was no answer so I
banged a couple more times, my stomach dropped and I sat on my neighbours’

            cold concrete stairs.
                 1hr later...

I decided to have a look around town. I tried to turn on the laundry light but the
power was out. I stumbled out to the power box but all of the power cords were cut.
I wobbled inside and grabbed my cardigan then I walked down the dead silent

streets all the cars were gone, no pets were barking.

I took every brain cell and tried to squeeze out what was happening. Did I pass

out? Was it the end of the world? And why did I survive?
