The Barclays FA WSL
Arsenal turned on the style on Sunday evening to beat West Ham Utd
4-0 and keep themselves three points clear at the top of the Barclays FA
WSL. The Gunners took a grip on the game when Kim Little scored a
double, either side of half time, before Beth Mead made it three on the
hour and a Grace Fisk own goal rounded off the scoring.
Chelsea had drawn level on points with the Gunners the day
before, following their 1-0 victory away to Aston Villa. Jessie Fleming
gave her side a fifth league win in a row when she scored the only goal,
midway through the first half.
Jean-Luc Vasseur’s first league match in charge of Everton ended in defeat, beaten
1-0 by Brighton & Hove Albion. Aileen Whelan scored the only goal of the game for the
Seagulls just after the hour, to hand her side their fourth league win of the season.
That result momentarily took Brighton up into third place, before a late, late
equaliser returned Tottenham Hotspur into the top three on Sunday. Spurs fell behind to
Manchester Utd early in the second half, Alessio Russo putting them in front within two
minutes of the restart, but just as it looked as though United were to pick up a win which
would move them into third themselves, Tottenham levelled the scores in injury time via a
Ria Percival free kick.
Manchester City gained a much needed 4-1 victory away to Leicester City, who
takes them back into a mid-table position. However it was Leicester who got off to a flying
start, taking the lead in the opening minute through a well taken goal from Jess Sigsworth.
Caroline Weir brought the Cityzens back on level
terms midway through the first half, and Keira Aston Villa 0
Walsh put them ahead before the interval. Lauren Chelsea 1 (Fleming 22)
Hemp made it three after the break and Laura - Everton 0
Coombs rounded off the scoring with seven Brighton & Hove Albion 1 (Whelan 61)
minutes remaining, to put an end to Man City’s -
run of four league games without a win. Tottenham Hotspur 1 (Percival 90)
After starting the season with four Manchester Utd 1 (Russo 47)
-
successive defeats, Reading FC Women have Birmingham City 0
got into their stride and they notched up their Reading FC Women 3 (Dowie 47, Rose 64,71)
second 3-0 victory in a row, this time away to -
Birmingham City. The first half was goalless Leicester City 1 (Sigsworth 1)
Manchester City 4 (Weir 24, Walsh 37, Hemp 71,
but two minutes after the restart, Natasha Dowie Coombs 83)
broke the deadlock in Reading’s favour and a -
brace of goals from Deanne Rose sealed a fine Arsenal 4 (Little 39,52, Mead 61, Fisk og 84)
West Ham Utd 0
result for Kelly Chambers’ side.
