FA Women’s Championship
Durham Women remain at the top of the table despite going down to their
second defeat of the season, beaten 3-1 by Crystal Palace. Bianca Baptiste
gave Palace a fourth minute lead which was doubled by Siobhan Wilson and
although Becky Salicki pulled one back for Durham late
on, Millie Farrow sealed an excellent win for her side
when she scored the third goal, deep into injury time.
A win would have taken Liverpool to the
summit but they remain in second place after sharing a
goalless draw with Blackburn Rovers. The Reds
therefore narrow the gap on Durham but are still a
single point behind them.
It was a good day all round for London City
Lionesses who are now just two points off the pace
following their 2-0 win away to Sunderland. Carly
Girasoli gave the Lionesses a fourth minute lead and
Rianna Jarrett sewed up the win late on when she
scored the second goal.
On a day of relatively few goals in the
Championship, a second goalless draw was fought out Coventry Utd’s Charlie Estcourt is closed down by
between Sheffield Utd and Charlton Athletic. Both Simran Jhamat of Bristol City (Will Cheshire).
sides went close but neither could produce a winner on
the day, leaving them placed just behind the leading sides.
Watford gained their first victory back in the second tier at the eighth attempt, a 2-1
success away to Lewes. Freda Ayisi put the Rookettes in front after just three minutes but
Watford were quickly back on level terms, thanks
to an Emma Beckett penalty. The game remained Crystal Palace 3 (Baptiste 4, Wilson 18, Farrow 90)
in the balance until nine minutes from time, when Durham Women 1 (Salicki 81)
substitute Leanne Bell scored the winner for -
Watford. Such is the tightness of the table right Lewes 1 (Ayisi 3)
now that Lewes, despite sitting third from bottom, Watford 2 (Beckett pen 10, Bell 81)
are only three points behind fourth placed - Liverpool 0
Charlton Athletic. Blackburn Rovers 0
Coventry Utd and Bristol City played -
their match on Monday night and produced a third Sheffield Utd 0
draw in the league over the weekend, finishing Charlton Athletic 0
level at 1-1. Rio Hardy scored for the second game -
in a row to give Coventry the lead just before half Sunderland 0
time and they looked to be on course for a first London City Lionesses 2 (Girasoli 4, Jarrett 88)
league win until eight minutes from time, when - Coventry Utd 1 (Hardy 44)
in-form City striker Abi Harrison salvaged a point Bristol City 1 (Harrison 82)
for her side.
