Leaders hoping to de-rail Durham
Merseyrail Ladies have got off to a great start in the North West League Premier Division and
on Sunday they get the chance to test themselves against National League opposition when
they take on Durham Cestria in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup.
Last Sunday, Merseyrail went top of the table after beating previous leaders
Tranmere and manager Lee Austin told Women’s Soccer Scene that there is no pressure on
his team this week.
“This is a game we can just go out and enjoy,” he said. “We go there as underdogs
against a team from a higher division but in the FA Cup, anything can happen.
“I look forward to building on our good run of form, but first and and foremost enjoy
the day and game.”
“It’s always exciting to play in the FA Cup against strong opponents,” added Gemma
Lancaster. “It’s a test but we’re ready to go and I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
Merseyrail captain Holly Sohl said: “After our 4-0 win against Tranmere last week,
the team are in high spirits.
“We know Sunday’s game is going to be tough because of the travelling and we know
Durham are in the league above and are going to be a tough side, but we back ourselves and
we know what is needed of us to get the win and go through to the next round.”
