Sherwood departs Bridgwater post
Bridgwater United have announced that manager Jamie Sherwood has left the club.
Sherwood, best known for guiding Yeovil Town to the WSL 2 title five years ago, had
returned to the club before its move to Bridgwater during the summer and they had started
well this season, currently occupying third place in the FAWNL Southern Premier Division.
Assistant manager, Jamie Harris will take over the running of the team on an interim
basis.
The club has issued the following statement:
“Bridgwater United Football Club can today confirm Women's First Team Manager, Jamie
Sherwood has stood down from his position with immediate effect.
Sherwood, who is in his second spell with the Club, has enjoyed a fine start to the
2021/22 National League Southern Premier Division campaign guiding his side to 3rd
place in the table.
With his departure confirmed, Jamie said: "Following the transition, we have built a
very strong squad and backroom team. The performances have been excellent and they
have set the standards for the rest of the season. They are a superb, honest and
hardworking group who have been an absolute pleasure to work with. I will miss being on
the touchline and I will miss them all.
"I have massive love and respect for the club, the players, staff and supporters. The
players can bring the success this club deserves and I know, if given the time and space to
develop, it will come and I wish them every success on the journey to the destination I
know it will end up.
"For me, it is with a heavy heart but now is the right time to move on. I want to thank
Adam Murry for bringing me back to Yeovil and the opportunity to start the process of the
club's new chapter in Bridgwater. The future is a bright one, so enjoy the ride."
The Club's CEO Adam Murry commented: "This is a very difficult decision to receive
for everyone involved, not least because I have the utmost respect for what Jamie has
achieved in the game and at the club."
"On behalf of everyone at the Club, the Board and personally, I would like to thank
Jamie and wish him every success in the future. He has been an important figure in the
history of this club. He will always be warmly welcomed back at Fairfax Park."
Moving forward, current Assistant Manager Jamie Harris has taken interim charge
of First Team affairs beginning with the FAWNL Southern Premier match against
Portsmouth last Sunday.
England to play at Doncaster
England will welcome Latvia to Doncaster Rovers’ Keepmoat Stadium on Tuesday 30th
November (7.00pm) as they reach the halfway mark in their FIFA Women’s World Cup
2023 qualifying campaign.
The Lionesses will begin the November international window against Austria at the
Stadium of Light, Sunderland on Saturday 27th November before travelling to Doncaster
for their final fixture of the calendar year.
Head coach Sarina Wiegman said: “We are excited to visit the Keepmoat Stadium at
the end of the year. Visiting another great venue in the north of England is hopefully
welcome news for our many supporters in the region.
“Doncaster Rovers Belles are one of the most famous names in women’s football in
this country and have a great history that I am learning all about. The same is true of
Sunderland and it’s astonishing just how many of our current England players started their
careers in Yorkshire and the North East.
“Hopefully our visits to Sunderland and Doncaster will not only attract a lot of
supporters but will also inspire the next generation of England hopefuls from both regions.
