MSB Woolton Women are the Champions of Liverpool Womens & Youth Football League
Division Two, emerging as winner following a tightly fought campaign between two teams.
Woolton finished on top of the table with 34 points but level with Southport FC
Women but, due to league rules, they were unable to be crowned champions on goal
difference. This meant that the two teams had to play in a play-off for the title and after a
2-2 draw, MSB Woolton came out winners 5-4 on penalties.
MSB Woolton are managed by Neil Johnson, with Leah Weaver as captain. Kirstie
Pickin had a great season in front of goal for the team, scoring 30 times.
The season did not get off to the greatest of starts as they were beaten twice in their
opening three matches, which included exchanging wins with eventual title rivals
Southport. The next match was drawn but this sparked off a run of ten matches unbeaten
which lasted until February. The run of wins saw them surge up the league table and
included a 4-3 victory against Alder FC Women reserves, given to them by a last minute
       winner.
The run came to an end at Maghull but the team’s response was an impressive one,
winning all of their five remaining league matches including beating Southport 5-0 in the
final game. This set them up for the play-off match between the two teams, from which
       MSB Woolton emerged triumphant.
The team came close to landing a second trophy as they reached the Final of the
Liverpool FA Challenge Cup but were beaten by Wirral Phoenix.
